Welcome to Astraeus Airlines

The business model of ACMI (wet, damp & dry) is certainly proving very successful for all our customers.

We have recently seen a very steady increase in the demand for our services from a variety of worldwide companies & brokers and our client base continues to expand.

August 2010

Summer 2010 seems to have started with a bang, I would have expected some kind of ramp up to a full summer program but instead it seems to have gone from gentle winter flying to full summer mayhem at the flick of a switch. For the summer we have five aircraft in Iceland, the two regular 737-700s, a 737-300 and two 757’s. As for the rest of the fleet, BMI have their usual aircraft, as do Palmair and Trawel, RW (757) has a contract with the MOD and EasyJet have the final 757 and the A320 remains with Travel Service in the Czech Republic for the rest of the summer. Additionally we have commenced operations to New York and the Winnipeg on behalf of our sister company, Iceland Express. So the upshot of it all is good news because we are very busy.

The winter is interesting, Iceland Express will keep the two 737-700’s and maybe a 757. They are still considering their winter options and it is premature to say exactly what I think might happen, but I can say that they seem very interested in expanding their winter destinations and might well require at least two and a half units. BMI will keep their aircraft, as will Palmair and Trawel. The other 737-300 will support an ad hoc programme and the other three 757s will be going to Hajj followed by an Iron Maiden tour for one of them. So that leaves us with the two 757s and an A320 to place. It is fair to say that some of the available time will be used to cover heavy checks, but we are also in discussions with a number of clients in various locations.

On the development side nothing ever seems to stay calm, in the last six months on behalf of potential clients, we have gone from programme evaluation of 19 seater aircraft to the evaluation of 430 seat B747s. We are once again working on a long haul project and who knows; maybe this time we could see some larger equipment coming into the fleet.
